Some people think that we should invent a new language for international
communication.

Do the benefits of this outweigh the problems?

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Sample Answer 1:

There are so many languages around the world, thereby discouraging people from
different regions or cultures to communicate with each other. To overcome this
obstacle, some people propose to invent a new language which will be used as an
“international language” among people who come from different areas. Although this
proposal seems reasonable, I personally see more disadvantages than advantages of
inventing a new language.

First of all, a new language would not be accepted by many people because it would
be artificial and not based on any culture. In addition, people would have to spend
time to learn the grammar and the words of the new language.

Secondly, promoting a new language requires financial support and a lot of time. For
instance, in some countries such as China and India there are many languages because
it is financially unrealistic to teach everyone in poor areas one language. Although this
might be achieved finally, it will take as long as a hundred years or even more.

Another reason against having a new language is that it is bound to be divided into
dialects and so the whole purpose of having one language would be lost. For instance,
in Punjab, a small state of India, the mother tongue Punjabi has two dialects which are
quite different from each other. So it would be unrealistic to expect one language
without different dialects in the whole world.

Finally, we all know that variety is the spice of life and language is related to culture.
So, if we have one language spoken in the whole world, then it would be a dreary and
dismal place to live in.

To sum up, although there would be benefits such as easy trade and travel, inventing a
new language for the international communication is not a good idea because of the
various reasons given above. In my opinion it is totally a waste of time and money to
invent a new language because its advantages cannot outweigh its disadvantages.

Today, English is regarded as an international language to communicate between different countries all around the world. However, few people insist that a new international language should be invented to enhance more effective interaction and communication. According to my mind, it is a great idea to bring the world on one platform; I believe this action will have more advantages than disadvantages.
To start with, if the world has a single dominant language, it may effect negatively on the cultural identity of minority countries. Such languages will go instinct as everyone will be eager to learn new international language to cope with the pace of life. Regardless of their mother language, the new language will become their priority to have higher education and better jobs.
In addition, this innovation would also increase the expenditure of governments as creating, publishing and teaching will demand extra fund from the government. So, keeping this in mind, already existed international language, English, seems much more effective than creating a new one.
On the other hand, there are some deniable advantages also, such as; trading among the countries will be easier without a language barrier, which will increase the economicstatus of the countries. Also, it will make convenient for every individual to travel around the world regardless of any language hesitation. Moreover, students will also benefit from this invention as they will have more opportunities to study in any corner of the world. To add further, due to new international language individuals will have equal opportunities of jobs as well, which will provide higher standards of living and result in increased paid taxes, hence, will improve the country’s economic status.
Again, English is the mother tongue in many developed countries and they get some competitive advantages because of that. If a new language is introduced, this problem would be eliminated and every one will have the same opportunity in jobs, business and international affairs. Furthermore, it is not that easy for a person to learn English perfectly as it requires time and experience. The accent is another problem for people in non-English-speaking countries. If a new international language is introduced, the accent would no longer be a problem for many people.
In conclusion, surely the cultural heritage of different countries will be affected by the new language, but, I strongly believe that having a peaceful world with strong economic system and less communication gap among countries is definitely more beneficial than advantageous

International communication is a difficult task in this linguistically divided world. Therefore, some people brought an idea of a new common language for international usage. However this seems to be rather negative in nature. This view will be stated in the fourth coming paragraphs.

First of all, a new language would take extended time to develop. For instance, language experts need more time to compile certain parts of a new language such as grammar. So, international communication is not expected to improve until the full operation of a language is commenced. This makes it clear that why the concept of a new common language is not beneficial.

Secondly, even if the language is developed, it would not spread as expected. For example, insufficient number of resources and linguistic experts delay the expansion of new language to the world. Thus, it is evident that new language will fail to represent the international communication in near future.

Finally, the availability of many popular languages does not necessitate a new lingua franca. To illustrate, English is more popular and widely accepted all over the world. Therefore, encouraging the use of such popular languages is helpful to tackle the difficulties in the creation and distribution of a new language.

To encapsulate, the extended time to create and to spread a new language is less beneficial to the world. So, now it is clear that why I have mentioned the idea of a new common language as a negative approach. After analyzing the subject, it is clear that instead of creating a new language, nations should promote a popular language for international communication

In this modern age, economy and technology is advancing at a staggering rate. And the internet gets the relationship among people increasingly close. As a result of this, how to cross the gap between different countries and cultures and communicate more efficiently becomes a universal subject.

A global new language seems like the relatively good solution to this subject. In the first place, it would certainly resolve the problem of communication. If people from different countries use the same language, there would be no more misunderstanding and people could talk with each others without any restriction. In addition to borderless communication, a global language could greatly expand the amount of our information. That is, if all of the coverage and publication, such as books, material and news, are of the same language, the information and knowledge would be available for us increasingly by hundreds of thousands of times. What is more, a global language is also an economical approach for companies. It would save a great deal of capital on promotion and translation for them. It would be unnecessary to use several languages on their products’ description and news conference.

On the other side, the unavoidable disadvantage of an international language should not be overlooked. Obviously, it would erode native language of every country. English is a typical example for this, nowadays, as a universal tool of communication. English is eroding a vast amount of lesser-known languages. In this case, these lesser-known languages as well as their cultures are slowly disappearing. However, in my opinion, this process could be slowed down, even stopped. Government should take the responsibility to teach its citizen their native culture while teaching the global language.

In conclusion, by preventing cultural extinction to ease the disadvantage of a new language, inventing a new language is a good option since it helps us communicating unlimitedly, enriching our information resource and saving companies money.
