IELTS Writing Task 2/ IELTS Essay Sample
Sample Answer 1:
Advertisements are ubiquitous nowadays and especially advertising targeting children
who are considered vulnerable target by companies. As a result, many parents are
worried about this phenomenon. However, we cannot ban advertisements because
they serve a lot of useful purposes as well.
Admittedly, in sensitive areas such as the toy industry, some censorship should be
there to limit children’s access to excess advertisement. Because children under a
certain age lack abilities to make wise judgment as to what they really want. They are
attracted by colourful pictures on advertisement and swayed by misleading
information. So they pester their parents to buy those things and this can upset the
budget of many families. Even the advertisements of fast foods are bad for children.
Children cannot understand that the slim-trim models advertising Mac Donalds
burgers hardly ever eat such foods themselves. They are attracted to fast foods and
these are very detrimental for their health.
On the other hand, advertising provides us with information on new products. If it
were not for electronic and print advertising, many products would not be bought. In
this way, advertising provides an important service to manufacturers and some
consumers. Additionally, it fuels the advertising industry, creating jobs for thousands
of people. In this respect it has the backbone of many economies of the world.
Furthermore, advertisements touch social issues. For example, when Amitabh
Bachhan tells people to bring their children for pulse polio immunization, people
listen. Then there are ads against female foeticide which are very informative.
Advertisements also teach a lot about the country from where the ads come. This is
because through satellite TV we can see ads from all over the world. When we see a
Japanese advert of a lady in a kimono, we come to know about the clothes of Japan.
To put it in a nutshell I pen down saying that, it is imperative that regulations be
imposed on advertisers who target children or who make false claims. However,
advertisement is indispensable in this highly competitive market and produces much
more positive effects than negative ones to the society as a whole. So, we should not
ban advertisements.
Model Answer 2:
Currently, many companies tend to choose children as their target market to advertise their products. While some advertisers argue that these advertisements are informative, I personally believe that this marketing strategy negatively affects youngsters and their parents.
On the one hand, there are some reasons to believe that advertisements aimed at children contain useful information. Firstly, thanks to commercials, parents may be aware of the products that are useful for their children. For example, some nutritious brands of milk are widely advertised on TV, which parents can consider buying for their children if they are confused by the wide variety of brands available in the market. Secondly, since advertisements often have creative contents in order to get people’s attention, children can be interested in this marketing industry if they are exposed to advertisements regularly. As a result, they may work as an innovative advertiser when they grow up.
On the other hand, I believe that choosing children as the target market to introduce products is harmful to both these individuals and their parents. As the young are inexperienced, they may fully believe that the information in advertisements is true. If they are attracted by these exaggerated commercials, they will be likely to insist their parents to buy them products which are unnecessary and sometimes even unhealthy. For instance, we can easily find advertisements of different brands of instant noodles and soft drinks either on TV or on the internet, and these consumer goods are often known as unhealthy. If they are advertised in an attractive way, youngsters will put pressure on their parents to buy these things.
In conclusion, while some people believe that advertisements aimed at children are useful, I would argue that this method of advertising has adverse effects on both inexperienced youngsters and their parents.
Model Answer 3:
People argue that advertisement bring negative effect for society. However, people believe that advertisement acquires positive effect, especially behavior. I believe that advertisement has disadvantages outweigh advantages for children.
Advertisement is form of communication to promote product or service for maximize profit. The first motive of advertising is to attract attention children. Advertisement offers snack, food, drink, and toys which relate to kids cause they are easily target to influent. Children become consumptive and follower when they see on television. Consumptive behavior might lead to obesity and it is precursor to disease such as diabetes and hypertension. When children see something interesting, they only think to go and try it. For instance, children try smoking for becoming gentleman, and smoking impact to hearth problem. Besides that, children become obsession and advertisement product what they see and they continue to hassle their parents until they get it.
On the other sides, advertising also give moral message. For instance, advertising provokes children to stay clean such as brushing teeth twice a day to keep their teeth clean and healthy. Advertisement can improve creativity children. When they see animation or interesting picture, children will push their imagination to be more creative.
To sum up, advertisement has advantages outweigh than advantages for children. In this condition, parents should manage and control their children to choose the good product of advertising. Also, government should support by managing time of advertisement for promoting their product.
Model Answer 4:
It is evident that children still do not have enough experiences and abilities to identify what they are really need. Take instance, in my country, many advertising companies produce advertisements with famous sports stars and popular actors or singers. Children buy goods were affected by their favorite stars’ advertises, although they do not really need the products. Therefore, the vast majority of the snack foods that kids see advertised on the TV today are for products that nutritionists would tell us they need to be eating less of, not more of, if we are going to get a handle on childhood obesity. In terms of healthy diet for children, their parents need to develop a healthy eating habit for their children. Instead children were impacted by the fast foods’ advertisings. Lastly, an even more significant factor that should be taking into account is those advertising companies’ advertisements are increasing the gap between the rich families and poor families. Children from the poor households may hurt their emotions, lead to an inferiority complex because their parents are not particularly well-off to buy expensive toys or clothes for their children.
On the other hand, those advertisements are very difficult to be prohibited. For TV stations or web sites, broadcast more advertisements on their programs means earn more money. Although in some countries, the governments restrict advertisings which are aimed to children in specific period time. Whereas advertisers in order to achieve their own goals can through other ways to advertising, such like advertising in supermarket or shopping malls.
To put it in a nutshell, I insist on saying that the governments should ban huge number of advertisements are aimed at children. Especially in the sensitive areas of businesses, such like toys and fast food industries.
Model Answer 5:
Capitalist has found new ways to improve their profits by using advertisement. Moreover, they choose children as their market target and influence them by advertisement.
Based on Karl Marx theory, capitalist can use anyways to improve their profits. They do not compete with the others by producing the products only, but also by advertising it, the more they advertise the more profits they get. This becomes a big problem since they use children as their advertisement target. Capitalist believes that children are the best target to sell their products. Most products such as foods, snacks, toys, and milk are common to children, and those are the basic needs for them. This can be described by Sigmund Freud theory; children are the phase when Id is the source of all physic energy. It can be called as biological needs, such as hunger and thirst. That is the reason why capitalist choose the children as their market targets to sell their products that most of them are the basic need products. As they advertise it frequently to children, it can affect the unconscious mind of children to fulfill their desires by consuming those products.
Regarding on the reason above, children just become a victim of advertisement by capitalist. Since they can attack unconscious mind of children, the personality development of theirs will follow what capitalist want to. Children will believe that a strong man is a smoker, a beautiful woman is a girl who uses high price cosmetics, and to become good children they should consume certain milk. Sometimes capitalist bring along the moral message to their advertisement however it is nonsense since their main goals are to sell products.
Therefore, I agree that advertisement should be banned because it just capitalist tool to sell their products and children just become a victim of it.
Model Answer 6:
Ever since the liberalization of media, advertisements have been its primary source of revenue. Children, who are in their formative years, are more likely to be influenced by advertisements than their elder counterparts, are regularly targeted by the marketers. It is agreed that this has negative effects on children, thus, shall be banned. This will be proven by looking at how, these advertisements can ultimately make children defiant, and play a part in distracting children from academic activities.
To begin, when children are exposed to advertisements of products that their parents can’t afford to provide for them, children often resort to defying both, their parents, and society. For instance, it is a known fact that most children, who go on to become rebels, had been deprived of their wishes for items that they don’t even need, nor can afford, such as elegant toys and expensive mobile phones. This shows that advertisements of certain kinds of products can lead children to develop delinquent tendencies. Hence, promotional material that targets children has more than its fair share of disadvantages.
In addition to this, a large number of the flashy advertisements can subconsciously have a detrimental effect on a child’s academics. For instance, after being barraged by an endless amount of advertisements in a short span of time, juveniles can lose their ability to focus on a certain task for an extended period of time. Thus being exposed to such advertisements can take its toll on a child’s brain. After analyzing this, the demerits of advertisements targeting children are manifested.
Following this look at how advertisements aimed at children can, undermine their behavior, and hinder the achievement of their academic objectives, it is evident that these advertisements have adverse effects on children. Thus it is hoped that governments should muse upon banning of such advertisements.
